1. Work out Better, not Harder
Did you know that once you turn 40 years of age, regardless if you’re a man or woman, your body starts aging faster than normal? Without proper nutrients and exercise, your body will age about 6 months extra for every year that passes. By the time you reach 60, you will LOOK and FEEL 70 YEARS OLD! We see this every day… just look around you.
The key to staying younger and aging slowly is keeping a healthy body and mind. Instead of doing intense cardio for 40 minutes, try sticking to 10-20 mins every day. It is more likely that you will stick to an “easier” work out plan then to go all out and exhaust yourself by not letting your body recover. Many folks who are over 50 are still active, but those who aren’t may struggle with stiffness and sore muscles while trying to get back into shape.
This is reversible at any age. There are certain ways to move, eat and think to tell your brain to SLOW down or STOP the rapid aging process, or even reverse!
When you stress your body during a long “intense” cardio based workout, your body doesn’t respond well and it will often take a few days to recover. Instead if you stick to interval training, weights and light cardio your body will not only thank you but will reward you in the end. Studies have shown that people are more likely to stick to a daily workout plan that is short, sweet, and get’s the job done right. Weight lifting and intervals build muscle, and muscle burns MORE calories FASTER. Even at rest your muscles are working to burn off calories and fat. Stick to lifting weights and light cardio which will not only tone, and re-shape your body but will benefit you more in the long run.
2. Eat Healthy and STOP Dieting
Trying to eat low-fat, zero carbs, juicing, detox diets can work, but only for a short period of time. Today we are fatter, sicker and more addicted to sugar and carbs than ever before, and we are passing these habits to our children.
GOOD FATS are to be embraced. They do not make you fat; rather they help your body regenerate your power hormones. People on low fat diets look drawn, gaunt and weak. They are often sick, and sometimes to the point of breaking down. Every meal, calorie, gram, fat must be accounted for. This doesn’t make you younger… only older!
