Fillers Promote Collagen Growth?

Did you know that multiple injections of fillers can help stimulate the skin to produce collagen?

A study conducted by scientists at the University of Michigan Medical School found that not only do hyaluronic acid-based fillers like Juvéderm smooth away wrinkles, treatments can also spur the skin to produce collagen, one of the essential proteins responsible for structure, support and a smooth complexion. These findings from the research, conducted back in 2007, stress that more than one injection is required to positively impact collagen levels. Participants received a minimum of three injections in one treatment (for facial rejuvenation, three or more injections is very common). In fact, it is believed that the results from an injectable filler treatment last for as long as they do partially because of the renewed collagen production in the skin.

The renewal of collagen is believed to be a result of the stretching of fibroblasts. Fibroblasts are the cells responsible for the creation of collagen proteins, and they are prompted to emit more with multiple filler injections. Furthermore, chemicals that prevent the destruction of collagen are also stimulated.

Interesting research for filler fans!
