Up Your Fibre Game

Eating right after your CoolSculpting treatment is essential to preserve your results. You know that fresh vegetables and fruit are crucial, and so is getting enough fibre in your diet.

Fibre – Why it’s important

Research has shown that dietary fibre can help reduce the risk of death, from anything! Heart disease, respiratory diseases, or other serious health conditions – all can be reduced by eating enough fibre.

There are two types of fibre: insoluble and soluble. Insoluble fibre is from fruit, vegetables, nuts and other things that pass through your system without being broken down in your intestines, to bulk up whatever “comes out” (to put it politely). Soluble fibre is from peas, oats, avocados and some fruit. It gets absorbed by your blood, where it acts to lower bad cholesterol and slow the absorption of sugars (which is great for diabetics).

If you want to get the benefits of a fibre-rich diet, the key is to try to eat about 25 grams a day if you’re female, and 30 if you’re a male. That sounds like a lot, but it is totally possible by eating the right foods.

  1. A good start is to  eat at least three servings of vegetables a day. Top that off with at least two servings of fruit as well. Try to eat the majority of these in their true form, rather than juicing them.
  2. Choose artichokes, broccoli, celery and other vegetables that are more fibrous.
  3. Don’t peel your fruit or veg whenever possible.
  4. Try switching your meat with vegetable protein, in the form of beans and whole grains, at least three times a week.
  5. If you must snack, ditch the potato chips and go nuts!
  6. Always choose whole grains.

And if you’re upping your fibre, make sure to drink plenty of water while you’re at it. This will help make everything come out a little easier.
