TOP 5 BOTOX DONT’S!

It is important to follow up after your Botox injections, here are some things you shouldn’t do following your appointment:

1. Don’t touch your skin where the Botox was injected.

Avoid rubbing and massaging the treated area for 24 hours because you don’t want to make the Botox spread to other unintended muscles.

We ask that you remain upright for at least four hours after the injection. You’ll need this time to allow the filler to absorb some of the water in your body and for any swelling from the injections to settle.

2. Avoid strenuous physical activity.

This means pilates, swimming, and even sit ups are all out of the question. We also ask that you wait at least 3 hours before jumping back on that treadmill.

3. Avoid consuming large amounts of alcohol.

Drinking will increase the chance of bruising.

4. Avoid getting facials, chemical peels, microdermabrasion, etc. for 24 hours.

We advise you to wait at least 4 hours before rubbing the area, but 24 hours would be a safer time frame if you were planning a vigorous facial massage.  There aren’t any good scientific studies on this, which is why different injectors have different recommendations. The theory is that rubbing the area might cause the product to migrate little beyond the treatment area.

5. Avoid taking the blood thinning medications.

If one is on aspirin, NSAIDs (e.g. ibuprofen), or blood thinners the risk for bruising is even higher.  Bruising will likely resolve in 1 week.

If you get a Botox bruise, topical vitamin K and arnica can help to make the bruising go away faster. Green or yellow concealers can also help cover up the bruises.

Go back for touch-ups if you need it or are unsatisfied with your results.

Call your doctor or seek medical attention if you experience any side effects or complications from the Botox treatment.

Taking these measure after Botox will help you get both a better Botox experience and better Botox results.
