Summer is my favourite time of year. The sun, the heat, the humidity…the HUMIDITY?

Yes, it’s true that high humidity is great for your skin. The added moisture in the air keeps your skin from getting parched and chapped, something that we’re all too familiar with in the cooler months. But that extra moisture isn’t good news for your hair, is it?

The cuticle of your hair is made up of thousands of little shingles. When there’s extra moisture in the air, these shingles  naturally absorb it and in doing so, fatten up and lift up. This makes them bulkier and messier, which is how you end up with frizz.

To beat the frizz, try these simple tips:

  1. Rinse your hair with cold water, not hot.
  2. Use products that moisturize your hair.
  3. Try to limit washing your hair, or at least skip the shampoo a couple of times a week.
  4. Hair oils can help smooth down the frizzes, but make sure to limit how much you put it on to avoid that weighed down look. (You might not want to try this out if your hair is already on the greasy side, but you wouldn’t need it anyway if that were the case.)
