What to Expect After a Botox® Injection

You may have made the informed decision to get Botox® injections in order to treat your fine lines and wrinkles. However, what you may not yet know is what will happen after you receive the treatment.

The first thing to note in regards to getting a Botox® injection is you should avoid taking any aspirin or anti-inflammatory medicine approximately two days before receiving the treatment. Stopping the action of taking these medicines will aid in protecting you from potentially increased bruising or swelling.

The results of Botox® injections do not generally surface until 2-3 days after the procedure has occurred, but this may vary person to person. After 3 -7 days the muscles will begin to restrict, some of your lines will begin to minimize while others will disappear completely. The lines will continue to diminish for about a month after, with results lasting for some patients for as long as 6 months, though generally the full results of Botox® injections will last 3-4 months.

It is highly suggested that any strenuous exercise be avoided for at least 24 hours after a Botox® treatment has been performed. It is also suggested that lying down or even looking down after you have received an injection needs to be completely avoided for up to 4 hours after the procedure has been completed.

Additionally you should not press or massage any area a Botox® injection has been placed in, for 4 hours or more after treatment. Not following these small instructions could lead to negative effects.

Perhaps one of the most wonderful results of Botox® injections is the amount of time it takes to recover. Believe it or not, recovery time after receiving an injection is almost immediate. Since the procedure itself is non-surgical and non-invasive, you can get right back to your usual self. Just remember to follow the guidelines already mentioned to achieve your desired results.

One of the many fears men and women face when considering a Botox® procedure is a dramatic change in their facial expression. This is a very common misconception in the world of cosmetic surgery. The only way a patient will experience a “frozen” looking appearance after an injection is only if too much Botox® is used during the procedure and/or if the procedure is done incorrectly.

The best way to avoid any negative effects from your experience with Botox® is to consult with a well-known clinic such as here at Skin Vitality and only accept Botox® injections from certified professionals. The certified physicians and registered nurses at our medical clinics across the GTA are well equipped to answer all of your questions and help you determine which treatment is best for you based on your needs to look and feel like your most amazing self.
