About Juvéderm® Injectable Filler for Men
One of the most popular products used in the field of aesthetic medicine is Juvéderm®. It is an injectable gel facial filler that is able to give patients the benefits of improved skin and anti-aging effects but differ in several important ways. Facial fillers in men can be very effective in reversing early signs of aging in the face and in achieving a natural result with little to no downtime. It is critical to understand the male facial anatomy to achieve a result that is balanced and does not feminize the male face.
According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, more than 1.3 million cosmetic procedures were performed on men in 2018, representing a 29% increase since 2000. UK searches for ‘jaw fillers men’ have also increased by an average of 300% since 2004, according to Google Trends data.
This FDA and Health Canada approved “next-generation” dermal filler, based on hyaluronic acid, is a naturally occurring substance in your skin. A single treatment can provide a subtle to dramatic improvement of your appearance, without surgery. Skin Vitality Medical Clinic is the TOP provider of Juvéderm® Fillers in Toronto, Mississauga and in fact, the whole country. We perform more Juvéderm® dermal filler injections than any other medical practitioners in Canada.
Our talented medical staff specialize in the application of Juvéderm® dermal fillers, that:
- Enhances your facial contours
- Erases wrinkles
- Replaces lost volume
- Modifies the size and shape of your features.
For facial contouring to reshape your original features, whether you’re younger or older, Juvéderm® simply adds more HA to your skin to add the volume necessary to make a positive change.
Juvéderm® Treatment at Skin Vitality
Once our doctor has deemed the treatment to be safe for you, you will meet with one of our expert medical injectors. They’ll examine your facial structure and skin type. They will also talk to you about your goals and expectations of your treatment. This can take anywhere from 10 – 30 minutes depending on the areas you are looking to treat and the extent of your concerns. Every assessment is personalized to fit your needs.
A topical numbing cream may be applied for local anesthetic in order to increase your comfort, however, this isn’t always necessary. Juvéderm® already has an ingredient in it designed to help you: lidocaine. Lidocaine provides temporary numbing of the treated area at the time of your injection, making any additional anesthesia unnecessary.
The areas to be treated will be marked. Then, a series of Juvéderm® injections are made in the area(s). A sterile syringe and fine needle that has been pre-packaged by the manufacturer is used. One or more syringes can be administered in a single treatment. Once injected, your injector may massage the areas lightly to adjust the placement of the product. It’s important to note that you should not do this yourself at home, even if you see any lumps or bumps that are taking away from your desired results.
If there are any Juvéderm® results that you do not like, we will be able to fix them during your follow up, two weeks after your initial treatment. By that time, any initial swelling will be gone, making it easier to assess and deal with irregular contours that require adjusting.
Juvéderm® Syringes & Application
Juvéderm® Voluma® XC
Juvéderm Voluma XC injectable gel is typically used for restoring cheek or mid face area to correct age-related volume loss and also to help restore a more youthful curve and position to the higher area of cheekbones in women.
Juvéderm® Volbella
Juvéderm® Volbella is primarily used to treat volume loss in the skin. This filler will create natural-looking results that mimic the look and feel of your natural lips. Specifically, this filler can also be used to correct concerns such as: Perioral lines (lip lines).
Juvéderm® Volift
Over time, lines can form from the outer corners of the nose to the mouth (nasolabial folds) and from the corners of the mouth to the jawline (marionette lines). Juvéderm® Volift can effectively fill out these areas, adding volume to the skin and reducing the appearance of wrinkles and creases. This new formula includes lidocaine, which helps to numb the skin for your comfort. In addition, a smaller amount of hyaluronic acid can be used while achieving the same results as alternative fillers.
Juvéderm® Volux
Juvéderm® Volux is a hyaluronic acid dermal filler which has been specifically designed for use in the chin and jawline. We can use it to improve facial harmony by strengthening the jawline and chin, to soften jowls, improve ‘double chins’, or to give a stronger more defined jawline.
Juvéderm® Volite
Juvéderm® Volite is a unique treatment that stimulates the fibroblasts (cells responsible for collagen formation), causing a dramatic increase in the production of elastin, collagen and hyaluronic acid — the three elements of your skin that are vital in keeping your skin youthful and radiant. You don’t need multiple treatments to get the results you want — with just a single treatment, results can last up to 9 months.
Juvéderm® Ultra
Juvéderm® Ultra is an advanced dermal filler with a smooth consistency that is excellent to restore volume and hydration for skin elasticity and support. It is selected to treat fine lines and wrinkles around the mouth, under the eyes in the tear troughs, and for lip augmentation.
Juvéderm® Ultra Plus
Juvéderm® Ultra Plus is thicker than Juvederm Ultra. Medical professionals use it to improve the most severe wrinkles, the deepest nasolabial folds and marionette lines, and to fill depressions in cheeks. It can be used as a “liquid facelift” in order to sculpt facial contours.

- Forehead Filler
- Nasal Labials (nasolabial folds) Filler
- Filler for Marionette Lines
- Cheek Filler
- Tear Trough Filler (Under Eye Filler)
- Nose Filler
- Lip Filler
- Lip Lines/Smoker Lines
- Jaw Line Filler

Other Areas:
- Hands (smoothes out the backs of the hands)
- Earlobes (plump up shrivelled and saggy earlobes)
- Temples (restore volume loss and depressed contours)
Juvéderm®Lip Filler:
Lips feature an independent and sophisticated fibrous muscular structure that allows fine manipulation and extensive movement. This complex of muscles is called the orbiscularis oris and is found only around the mouth. The orbiscularis oris, also known as a sphincter muscle, allows us to form the correct expressions to form a smile and frown, to talk and laugh, as well as to eat and sip. Juvéderm® for lips can be used to fill in some of these smile or frown lines.
As we age, our lips naturally begin to lose the elasticity and plumpness that we associate with youth. Juvéderm® is one of the most popular methods used by medical professionals to restore lips to a youthful, fuller appearance. After lips have begun to lose their shape, Juvéderm® is able to help restore plumpness and elasticity through the properties of its main component, hyaluronic acid.
Once it has been injected, the hyaluronic acid integrates with natural tissues and enhances the fat content of a patient’s lips. Regular follow-up injections allow you to maintain plumper lips and reduce the appearance of aging.
Juvéderm®Filler for Cheeks:
Our cheeks, just like the rest of us, are affected by age. As we get older, our skin begins to lose the elastin, collagen, natural fats and ability to retain moisture that is responsible for smooth, full and firm skin. Our cheeks can succumb to these problems faster than the rest of us. This is problematic because the cheeks are such a prominent part of our faces so damage to them greatly effects the general appearance of our face.
Juvéderm® works to make cheeks look younger by giving back what time and nature have taken away. The injectable Juvéderm® Filler integrates with the cheek’s skin tissue on a cellular basis to reverse the damage and promote a healthier, more youthful look.
The two major characteristics of aging cheeks — gauntness and wrinkling — can be resolved by Juvéderm®. Patients that undergo treatments with the filler soon begin to see volume added to the skin of the cheeks, a plumping up of the skin and a pleasant reduction to a hollow or gaunt appearance. Juvéderm® patients leave their treatment with cheeks that have been restored to their proper look.
Juvéderm® Filler for A DEFINED JAWLINE:
There are a multitude of studies that show that a sharp and strong male jawline gives men more sex appeal by denoting higher levels of testosterone and a stronger immune system. This is why it is unsurprising that many men are now opting to visually enhance and improve this area of their faces.
As we age, the bone volume in our jaw and chin begin to decrease. We lose definition, structure, and support over time, with genetics playing a role. Some people naturally have a weaker jawline or chin. With Juvéderm® Volux we now have the ability to achieve incredible results in the lower face.
Volux is a hyaluronic acid dermal filler which has been specifically designed for use in the chin and jawline. It can be used to improve facial harmony by strengthening the jawline and chin, to soften jowls, improve double chins, or to give a stronger and more defined jawline.
Genetically, some people have a small or weak jawbone or chin, whereas other lose volume through the ageing process. As we age, we lose bone in our skull – our cheeks deflate which mean that facial fat drops downwards with gravity. The thick hyaluronic gel in Juvéderm® Volux adds volume, structure, and support in the jawline and chin to create a more defined, chiseled, and sculpted jawline within a matter of minutes.
Jawline fillers for men can:
- Create a chiselled, square-looking jawline
- Improve the structure of the chin
- Frame and underpin the face
- Reduce the effects of age-related volume loss
- Improve the appearance of double chins
- Bulk out weak, slim or narrow jawlines
- Improve jawline strength and structure
- Frame and underpin the face

How Does Juvéderm® filler work?
What is Hyaluronic Acid?
Hyaluronic acid (otherwise called hyaluronan or hyaluronate) is a naturally occurring property of the human body known as a glycosaminoglycan. It can be found throughout the average person in skin, cartilage, muscles and tendons. As it is found throughout the body, hyaluronic acid has long been of interest to cosmetic medical doctors.
Hyaluronic acid (HA) is an essential component that forms the healthy structure of our skin. When we’re young, HA levels in our skin are relatively high, which is one reason why our skin is supple and elastic. However, with age and exposure to the damaging elements of our environment (particularly UV rays from the sun), our body produces less and less hyaluronic acid. The amount of HA in our skin disintegrates, combined with a decrease in collagen and elastin fibers causes the most notable signs of aging develop: wrinkles and volume loss.
In a similar manner to its medical uses, hyaluronic acid is also appropriate for skincare products and is commonly found within them.

FAQ's About Juvéderm®
Injectable filler, sometimes called dermal filler, is a type of substance designed to be injected into the skin at different depths to add volume and fullness, help fill in facial wrinkles, provide facial volume, and augment facial features: restoring a smoother appearance.
Several types of fillers use some form of hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring sugar compound found in some fluids and tissues in the body that add plumpness to the skin, and keep the body hydrated.
Juvéderm is one such line of dermal fillers. It contains both water and hyaluronic acid to create a smooth, gel-like product that plumps up your skin. Each product in the Juvéderm line features different bonding and concentrations of hyaluronic acid to target specific problems when injected into different areas and depths.
You may expect to pay an average of $500 to $600 or more for each syringe. Depending on your goals, you may need multiple syringes in one session. Some providers suggest two syringes in one treatment. The cost of Juvéderm varies widely.
Juvéderm procedures aren’t complicated or risky but patients — especially first-time patients — should know what to expect when they are preparing for their treatment. It’s easier to go into your treatment with confidence (and without any anxiety) if you understand just how easy recovery is and exactly what it consists of.
After you’ve completed your treatment, you’ll be free to leave and either return to your normal schedule or go home to wait out a quick recovery. You will be advised that strenuous exercise, alcohol consumption and excessive heat or sun exposure be avoided for a full day following the procedure. It’s also recommended not to touch, rub or massage the treatment site when possible in order to let the body recover from the injection as quickly as possible. Do not to massage or rub the treated area and be especially gentle with it for 24 hours after your treatment.
You will be informed about which topical products to avoid (make-up, lotions, etc.) and the length of time necessary. In most cases patients are only asked to stop using these products for a short period of time (one or two days) but it’s important to ask in order to avoid any potential complications that can arise.
As very small needles are used, there is only minimal discomfort and no downtime. An assessment of the results is made after 10 days to determine if more treatments are necessary.
Each Juvéderm dermal filler syringe contains 1ml of product. A small portion of this is lidocaine – only about .20ml. A single syringe cannot be shared between two patients because that would increase your risk of infection.
Fillers are capable of revitalizing and restoring your appearance, letting you look younger and healthier through simple and convenient procedures. There are facts that are essential to know before choosing which type of treatment is right for you, however. One of the most important of these is the difference between permanent and temporary injectable fillers.
The more popular option for contour and volume correction is found in temporary injectable fillers. These natural products are made with hyaluronic acid as their main component (like Restylane and Juvéderm), or poly-l-lactic acid (like Sculptura) which is absorbed by the body over a period of time following injection due to their natural, bio-compatible ingredients. After a period of many months, you may require additional injections to maintain the initial results of you treatment. Temporary injectable fillers are much more popular than permanent ones and are recommended as the right type of hyaluronic acid filler by almost every cosmetic medical practitioner and board-certified plastic surgeon. This is due to their ability to achieve results that are great for that specific time. The patient will most certainly experience changes in facial contours related to the aging process, and the temporary nature of these fillers allows the injector to adjust the results of the subsequent treatment to accommodate these changes for the most natural-looking improvement. Medical research has found that the risks related to permanent fillers are more serious and severe than those related to temporary fillers.
Common side effects of Juvéderm — which can be immediate, but usually clear within 7 to 14 days — include injection site reactions such as:
- Tenderness
- Swelling
- Firmness
- Lumps/Bumps
- Bruising
- Minor Pain
- Redness
- Itching
As we age, our lips naturally begin to lose the elasticity and plumpness that we associate with youth. Above, we discussed how this occurs and the causes behind it. Juvéderm, an injectable filler, is one of the most popular methods used by cosmetic surgeons when patients look to restore lips to a youthful, fuller appearance. After lips have begun to lose their shape, Juvéderm is able to help restore plumpness and elasticity through the properties of its main component, hyaluronic acid. Once it has been injected, the hyaluronic acid integrates with natural tissues and enhances the fat content of a patient’s lips. Regular follow-up injections allow you to maintain plumper lips and reduce the appearance of aging.
The ideal Juvéderm patient is an adult who is in good physical and mental health and has realistic expectations for what the product can accomplish. Juvéderm is meant for treating moderate or severe wrinkles and folds on the skin of the face for natural facial rejuvenation. It also provides excellent results in facial contour reshaping and lip augmentation.
This product has been medically researched at length on patients of varying skin types and skin shades. Studies prove that Juvéderm® is safe and effective whatever type or shade of skin you have. However, if you have particularly sensitive skin, the extent of bruising and swelling may be a little more and last a little longer.
Typical treatments involve targeting the lower third of the face (where problems like smile lines and/or nasolabial folds are present). If your skin improvement goals include reduction or elimination of crow’s feet, brow line and eyebrow area lining or treatment for nasolabial (between the mouth’s corners and nose) or nasolabial (between the cheeks and nose) folds then Juvéderm® may be right for you as well. This filler may also be administered in conjunction with other anti-aging injections. A good patient should be financially stable (being comfortable enough to pay for Juvéderm® treatments) and willing to undergo ongoing sessions in order to maintain their appearance. Since Juvederm® is composed of natural ingredients, it absorbs back into the body over time (usually a period of several months to over a year) and must be reapplied in order to stay visible. An ideal candidate understands the need for this and isn’t put off by returning to their clinic for annual, recurring injections to maintain ideal results, however you may experience the need for less treatments.
Recovery time is minimal. But, people are advised to avoid strenuous activity, sun exposure, wearing makeup, and consuming alcohol for at least 24 hours post treatment.
- Avoid applying makeup to the area for 12 hours after injection. When you do apply makeup, use a very light touch.
- Avoid excessive manipulation or massaging of the area.
- Avoid strenuous exercise for 24 hours following injection.
Avoid consuming alcoholic beverages for 24 hours following the injection to reduce bruising. - Sleep on your back. Avoid sleeping on your front or side for as long as possible.
Try to avoid making facial expressions or movements that use or move the injected areas for 2 days after treatment. - Avoid prolonged exposure to sunlight or UV light for 2 weeks after the injection.
Avoid extreme heat or cold, including saunas or hot tubs for 2 weeks after the injection. You may apply a cool cloth to the treated area, but avoid ice. - Report any redness and/or visible swelling that persists for more than 1 week, or any other symptoms that cause concern, to the clinic as soon as possible, particularly if you are concerned about infection.
It may be possible to treat both the lower and upper lips with a single syringe of Juvederm. In some cases there may be enough left to also treat chin and smile lines. However, this will only work effectively in those cases where the amount of correction is mild. Multiple syringes may be necessary for effective treatment when deeper lines and wrinkles are present, or when the amount of volume loss is more severe.
Filler can take up to two weeks to fully settle.
If you are unhappy with your results after this time, please make a follow-up appointment at a Skin Vitality Medical Clinic closest to you. In most cases, you can usually have it adjusted or dissolved altogether if you wish.
Dermal fillers can be composed of a variety of substances, some naturally occurring and some synthetic. One of the most common compounds used in dermal fillers is hyaluronic acid (HA). HA is a naturally occurring substance found in our skin, and it plays a major role in keeping skin hydrated and volumized. It also stimulates the production of the connective tissue that plumps the skin (collagen). As you get older, the production of hyaluronic acid and collagen decreases, which in turn increases the appearance of sagging and wrinkling of the facial skin.
One of the main benefits of HA filler is the natural appearance when injected. Volumizing using this type of filler helps plump up your skin to fill out unwanted wrinkles, creases and noticeable hollows. This same effect is what also helps to modify facial contours that you want reshaped or more defined, such as your cheeks, nose, jawline, or chin.
Most notice the effects of Juvéderm right away, or after the swelling reduces. While individual results can vary, results typically last between six months and two years. The long-term results can also vary between formulas.
Your initial appearance after treatment with any dermal filler may include:
An “overfilled” appearance to treated areas
Swelling or bruising
Temporary numbness or redness
Palpable lumps or hard areas at the injection sites
Most conditions can be alleviated with topical icing and massage, and will improve within a matter of hours or just a few days.
Several factors can influence dermal filler longevity, including:
- Where the filler is used on your face
- How much is injected
- The speed at which your body metabolizes the filler material
People who want Juvéderm touch-up treatments usually have them every six to 12 months. However, modifications to existing Filler injections from Skin Vitality Medical need to wait 2 weeks for the results to take full effect before modifying the area.
