The Lowdown on Deep Chemical Peels

Chemical peels come in a variety of strengths, with the strongest being classified as “deep”. Deep chemical peels are best suited for complexion concerns that are more severe, specifically prominent wrinkles, uneven pigmentation, and rough skin.

Your Treatment
When treating the entire face (the most common area), you should expect to set aside up to 2 hours for your deep chemical peel. Far less time is required if you just need one spot treated. During this time, your skin will react to the peel. It might feel like your skin is burning a bit, but this is a normal reaction. After giving the peel a chance to penetrate the skin properly, water is added, then later, petroleum jelly is applied to serve as protection for your skin. This jelly should not be removed and must stay on your skin for up to 2 days or so (your skin will look shinier than usual).

After a few days, your skin will turn pinkish red then fade. Swelling may also develop. This is indication that your peel has worked, and fresh new skin is being produced to replace the damaged, wrinkled layer you wanted removed.

In a couple of weeks, your skin will return to normal – but better! Your complexion will glow and be far smoother and more even toned than before your treatment. It’s amazing to see the improvement our patients have.
