BOTOX® and injectable fillers such as Juvéderm are the most popular non-surgical anti-aging treatments in Canada. A survey conducted by Medicard Financial found that Canadians received 126,564 filler injections and 142,374 BOTOX® injections — and most were females residing in Ontario, British Columbia, or Quebec between the ages of 35 and 50. And while women account for 83.5 per cent of this growing market, the number of men seeking non-surgical anti-aging treatments is on the rise.
Botox
A BOTOX treatment involves a tiny amount of purified protein produced by the clostridium botulinum bacterium injected with a very fine needle into specific muscles in the face. It temporarily relaxes or weakens the targeted muscles, which reduces the ability to squint, frown or show excessive worry lines. The most common area to target is the glabellar muscle (to erase frown lines between the eyebrows). It’s also used on the horizontal lines on the forehead, for crow’s feet around the eyes, to soften an overly prominent jawline, to lift the corner of the mouth, and to relax prominent platysma muscles in the neck. Results last about four months.
Juvéderm
Juvéderm is a form of hyaluronic acid that treats moderate to severe wrinkles and creases. It can raise the upper part of eyebrows, smooth under-eye hollows, enhances the lips, and redefine cheek contours as well as your chin and jaw line. It can also be used for minor rhinoplasty (nose reshaping). Results last from 6 months to a year.
