Feel better with a natural high:
A study by Robin Dunbar, a psychologist at Oxford University, has found that laughter can make you feel “high” in the same way as strong painkillers and heroin do – and you don’t need any prescription or break the law. Tolerance levels for pain also increased due to the release of endorphins, which were spurred by the muscular exertions that are necessary to create an audible laugh. In fact, participants of the study who laughed the most were found to experience less pain. Judging from the results of this study, it would be logical to assume that laughter could be an effective pain reliever to a certain extent!
The study was conducted on participants in a laboratory environment as well as at the comedic performances of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, an arts festival in Scotland.
So go ahead. Show those pearly whites and laugh aloud more!
